Edward Hiemstra, 85, residing in Milan, passed away early Monday morning, March 20, 2017 at Metro Health Medical Center after a brief illness.
Edward was born on June 20, 1931in Passaic, NJ to the late Garett and Anna (Vandervort) Hiemstra.
Edward was a 1947 graduate from Fairlawn High School in New Jersey. He was a Veteran of the US Air Force and served during the Korean War. He retired as an electrician from General Motors after 25 years of service. Edward was a member of the Sandusky Power Squadron, Sandusky American Legion, Sandusky Amvets and the Sandusky VFW. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, boating, camping, going to Middle Bass with friends, and spending time with his family.
Edward is survived by his daughter, Debbie (Dennis Jr.) Davie of Greenwich, OH; sons, Scott of East Liverpool and Mark of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Sean, Mackenzie (Brian) Ferber, Daniel and Dominic; sister, Elizabeth (Albert) Baliman of NJ; nieces, Jenelle (Evan) Feather and Kristin (Edward) Baldofsky both of NJ and nephew, Andrew (Tina) Baliman of NJ.
In addition to his parents, Edward is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Ward) Hiemstra and his grandson, Timothy M. Hiemstra.
Friends may call on Thursday, March 23, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory Milan Chapel, 1 South Main St., Milan. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Friday at 11:00 am with Pastor Eric Robinson of the Ripley Congregational Church in Greenwich presiding. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
