Sandra J. (DeRan) Schiefley, residing in Huron, died Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at her residence.
She was born in Fremont, OH on April 9, 1949, and attended Fremont Ross High School, moved to Port Clinton and graduated from Port Clinton High School with an award of Distinction.
She attended Bowling Green State University, Firelands Campus, and was a member of the student Advisory Board. Sandra graduated from United Airlines Flight attendant School and was assigned to flights originating from JFK and LaGuardia Airports. While in New York she taught conversational English to foreigners at the United Nations. Upon her return to Sandusky she worked in display advertising at the Sandusky Register and several years at the Citizens Banking Company.
She was a member of St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Sawmill Creek Ladies Golf League, and past member and President of the Women's Civic Club. Sandra enjoyed cooking, reading, travel, golfing, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Daniel Schiefley: her daughter, Jennifer (Kurt) Hupp; son, Steven Schiefley; grandchildren, Brayden Hupp, Cole Hupp, and Alexandria Hupp; sisters, Diane (Doug) Blue and Nancy (Frank) Savage; brother, Charles R. DeRan; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Charlotte (Kreilick) DeRan Hause; stepfather, Joy W. Hause; father, Richard C. DeRan; maternal grandparents, Lester W. and Irene Kreilick; paternal grandparents, Charles R. DeRan and Lucille DeRan Boyer; sister-in-law, Lois DeRan; and niece, Kelly DeRan.
At Sandra's request cremation has taken place. A gathering of friends for visitation will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017 from 1-4 P.M. in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. A private family memorial service will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Sandra's name may be made to Cancer Services of Erie County, 505 W. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, or to Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870.
