Donald Edward Hipp 84, 1804 E. Waterberry Drive, Huron, Ohio, formally of Sandusky, died Friday, March 24, 2017, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, following a brief illness.
He was born December 11, 1932, Sandusky, Ohio, son of Herman E. Hipp (Creston, OH.) and Edrie E. Harpst (Helena, OH.).
Donald was a 1950 graduate of Sandusky High School and attended The Ohio State University. He served 2 years in the U.S. Army (1953 - 1955), was honorably discharged as a sergeant and received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Donald, known affectionately as Don, spent most of his life in Sandusky, Ohio. His life was filled with activities including golfing, boating, fishing, and traveling. He held various supervisory roles in manufacturing and quality control during 32 years of service working at Ford Motor Company in Sandusky, Ohio and frequently mentioned how much he enjoyed his lunch time card games in the cafeteria. He welcomed a lively discussion with everyone he came across, and always was one to go out of his way to say hello and ask how things were going. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his children, Mark E. (Carmen) Hipp of South Lyon, MI., Suzanne L. Otero of North Olmsted, OH., Gary D. (Carolyn) Hipp of Wixom, MI., LeAnne E. (Thomas) George of Pewaukee, WI., and nine wonderful grandchildren, Lauren, Sarah, Michael, Alexander, Kellen, Kyle, Zachary, Hannah, and Emma. He is also survived by a sister JoAnne A. (Jude) Theibert of Sandusky, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Rosalie (Hofacker) Hipp, who died on January 31, 2015 and whom he lovingly cared for her during her lengthy illness.
Friends may call Friday, March 31, 2017 from 10:00 AM until time of service at 11:30 AM at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. The Rev. Dr. David Clarke, D.Min., Chaplain of Stein Hospice will officiate. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
