Estella "Big Stell" Green-Johnson, 97 of Sandusky, was called home to be with the Lord, on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, in Firelands Regional Medical Center.
Estella was born on February 6, 1920 in Cleveland, OH, to the late Harold and Ethel Lee Woods, and was baptized at an early age in Ebenezer Baptist Church, Sandusky.
She married Ulysses Green in 1938 and from that union 7 children were born, and eleven years later she united with Lee Henry Johnson Sr., to which 4 children were born.
She was employed as a domestic worker for many years with the Frankel, McCrystal, and Muelhouser families. Estella then worked for Experience Works until the age of 88.
Estella loved spending time with her family especially her 125+ grandchildren. Her second love was playing poker with family and friends.
She is survived by her sons, Ulysses H. (Barbara) Green, Clyde E. (Janice) Green, Lee Henry (Alva) Johnson Jr., Lamarr (Betty) Johnson, and Julian (Lesa) Johnson; daughters, Carolyn Campbell, Claudette (Freddie) White, Harriett Russell, and Renee Johnson; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; longtime companion of 30 years, William "Sonny" Payne; son, James R. Green in infancy; daughter, Ethel J. Green-Roldan; grandson, Marcus L. Johnson; great-grandson, Alain B. Roldan; and great-great-grandson, Xavier Russell.
At her request there will be no public services. The family will hold a private memorial service and burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
