Wallace F. Ries, 88, residing in Huron, passed away Thursday afternoon, May 11, 2017 at Providence Care Centers after a brief illness.
Wally was born on March 12, 1929 in Bloomingville, OH to the late Ferdinand and Norma (Lieb) Ries.
Wally was a Veteran of the US Navy who proudly served his country during the Korean War on the USS Turner. He retired from General Motors of Sandusky after 40 years of service. He also enjoyed farming at his home. Wally was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Huron. He was a 40 year member of the UAW and enjoyed the retirees monthly dinners. He was a fan of NASCAR racing and liked to farm and spend time with his family and friends.
Wally is survived by his sons, Paul (Kathy) Ries of Mechanicsburg, PA, Mark Ries of Sandusky and Kim (Amy) Ries of Spring Groove, PA; grandchildren, Timothy, Jonathan, David, Brooke and Lauren; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Gloria Sarrica and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Wally is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn (Davis) Ries in 2011; grandson, Chad Ries in 2014; sister, Virginia Wright in 2008 and brother, Robert Ries in 2016.
Friends may call on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 10:30 am with Pastor Philip Gardner presiding. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
