Walter Amburn, 69, residing in Sandusky, passed away early Sunday afternoon, June 4, 2017 at Stein Hospice Care Center after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
Wally was born on January 12, 1948 in Sandusky, OH to the late Orville and Monica (Fievet) Amburn.
Wally graduated from St. Mary's High School and received his Master's Degree from Bowling Green State University. Wally taught and coached at St. Mary's, Margaretta and Elyria schools. He also taught at Monroeville and coached at Norwalk St. Paul. He had the privilege of coaching the St. Mary's 1980 State Championship team. Wally was also named Teacher of the Year in all respective school systems. He also was employed with social services of Erie County for 5 years. Wally was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He was inducted to the OHSBCA Hall of Fame in 1987 and the St. Mary's Hall of Fame 2001. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his wife, family and friends.
Wally is survived by his wife, Connie (Esposito) Amburn, whom he married on July 30, 1982. He is also survived by his brother, Rene Amburn MD of Bellevue; sister-in-law, Nancy Amburn; brothers-in-law, Joseph (Joanne) and Vincent (Shirley) Esposito and many loving nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Wally is preceded in death by two brothers, Francis J. "Lance" Amburn in 2007 and Pierre Amburn.
Friends may call on Thurday, June 8, 2017 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home at 9:30 on Friday, June 9, 2017 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Sandusky.
