Ruth Elaine (Gouge) Gray, 74, residing in Sandusky, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Tuesday evening, June 6, 2017 at Stein Hospice Care Center.
Elaine was born on September 5, 1942 in Stoutland, MO to the late James G. and Laura E. (Pryer) Gouge.
Elaine was a 1960 graduate from Stoutland High School in Missouri. She attended and received her Bachelor's of Science in Business Education from Southwest Missouri State University and received her Master's in Business Education from Southern Illinois University. She was the children's director for the Bedford Church of the Nazarene in Bedford, Ohio from 1984 to 2004 before she became a member and the children's director for the Sandusky Community Church of the Nazarene until 2007. Elaine involved herself in the church in many ways, including being the pianist, teaching Sunday school, and was the Vacation Bible School Director. She served on the North Central Ohio District as the District Children's Director for 11 years. Elaine enjoyed traveling and collecting rocks from every state she and Walter visited. She liked craft projects and quilting. Elaine loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Elaine is survived by her husband, Walter C. Gray, whom she married on June 26, 1971. She is also survived by sons, Wayne C. (Paula) of Sedalia, MO, Wade C. (Monica) of Sandusky and Jeffery J. (Dani) Gray of Logan; grandchildren, Wesley, Timothy, Lucas, Joel, Halle, Kerrigan and Savannah; brother, J. Eugene (Debra) Gouge of Bolivar, MO and sister, Lois (Dennis) Miller of Erick, OK and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Friends may call on Friday, June 9, 2017 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Sandusky Community Church of the Nazarene, 1617 Milan Road, Sandusky. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 10:00 am until the time of the funeral services at 11:00 am. Pastor Robert Morrison will officiate. At a later date, services will also be held in Missouri at Shadel's Colonial Chapel, 1001 Lynn St., Lebanon, MO 65536. Burial will take place in Waynesville Cemetery, Missouri. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
