Alyce "Ali" J. (Gurtz) Schenk-Flaherty, 82, residing in Sandusky, passed away Thursday afternoon, June 15, 2017 at Firelands Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Ali was born on October 6, 1934 in Sandusky, OH to the late Arthur and Mary (Michel) Gurtz.
Ali was a 1952 graduate from St. Mary's High School. She was a registered nurse at the former Memorial Hospital and retired from Firelands Regional Medical Center after 43 years of service. Ali was a recipient of the Firelands Ambassador Award. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was a lifetime member of the Sandusky Eagles. Ali volunteered for Caner Services of Erie County. She loved country music, playing cards, riding her bike and spending time with her family and friends.
Ali is survived by her niece, Devera Fortuna of Castalia; her nephews, Edwin Jr., Art and David Fortuna all of Sandusky and several other nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, Ali is preceded in death by her two sisters, Marylinn Moser and Elizabeth Fortuna.
Friends may call on Monday, June 19, 2017 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 10:00 am. Father Michael Roemmele will officiate. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
