Richard C. Dowell, 87, residing in Sandusky, passed away early Wednesday morning, June 28, 2017 at his residence after a lengthy illness.
Richard was born on May 8, 1930 in Richmond, IN to the late Carl and Lillian (Warner) Dowell.
Richard graduated from Huron High School in 1949. He was employed by New Departure as a Bar Machine Operator and retired after 37 years of service. Richard was a proud Huron High School alumni and was a former member of the I.A.B. In his spare time he loved to bowl and play golf. He particularly enjoyed playing Thunderbird, Sawmill and Woussickett golf courses. While at home he could often be found watching tennis cheering on his favorite players. While in his youth, he was a four sport athlete playing football, basketball, track and tennis.
Richard is survived by his wife of 67 years, Donna "Jean" Dowell, whom he married on October 9, 1950; daughter, Linda (Michael) Corder of Bucyrus, OH; son, Richard Dowell of Hobart, IN; six grandchildren, Justin (Emily) Dowell, Dominic Dowell, Krista (Brent) Bronner, Jacob Dowell, Jenna (Matthew) Teynor and Phillip Corder; four great-grandchildren; sister, Roberta Wallace of Milan, OH; brother, Robert Dowell of Sandusky; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Burden and his brother, Don Dowell.
Friends may call on Sunday, July 2, 2017 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 3, 2017 at 11:00 am in the funeral home with Rev. Janeane Hopkins presiding. Burial will follow in Scott Cemetery, Huron.
