Barbara Jean Monegan Lanier, 71, Sandusky, made her heavenly transition on Thursday, June 29, 2017 to rest peacefully with the Lord.
Barbara was born July 8, 1945 in Meridian, Mississippi to the late Ella Louise "Baby Lou" and Mathes Monegan Sr.
She grow up in Meridian and graduated from T.J. Harris High School in Meridian. Barbara later married the late Fred Lanier Sr. and was blessed with three children from that marriage.
Barbara and her children moved to Sandusky in 1975 and was employed by the Erie County Department of Job & Family Services and the Classis Care Nursing Facility. Barbara was a loving and kind person to everyone she meet, always displaying a beautiful and radiant smile. Her greatest joys in life, was cooking, reading, music and most of all spending time with her children, grandchildren and especially taking care of her daughter Sherry, whom required much of her time.
She leaves to cherish her memories and rejoice in her peace three daughters; Margarita Miller, Youngstown, Ohio, Sherry and Linda Lanier, Sandusky, Ohio and one son; Fred Lanier Jr., Sandusky, Ohio, 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, eight sisters: Terry Kinnard, Chicago, IL, Helen Qualls, Castro Valley, Ca., Delphine Prophet, Toledo, Ohio, Nora Lee, Loveonia and Linda, Sandusky, Ohio, Maggie (Jewel) Haralson, Fremont, Ohio and Yvonne Easterling, Toledo, Ohio. Two brothers: William (Elodie) Bennett Jr., Riverview, Florida, Earnest (Perceil) DeLaine, Charleston, South Carolina, and a very dear and loving nephew, Pastor Harold "Kenny" (Renee) Kelly, Apopka, Florida and the Miller Family in Cleveland, Ohio Special friends Cynthia Ross, Sheffield, Ohio, Sharon Gant, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Evelyn Thomas, Steve Castile and Christine Keys, Sandusky, Ohio and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends,
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Grandmother, Mary Welch, sister, Betty Jean Bennett Kelly, nephew, Samuel Kelly, Step-mother, Sophia "Mama Sophia" Monegan, other relatives and ten days ago, her loving daughter Mary Devese Johnson of Fairfield, California on June 19, 2017.
Friends may call on Friday, July 7, 2017, from 10 A.M. until time of funeral services at 12 P.M. Noon, at Toft Funeral Home and Crematory 2001 Columbus Avenue Sandusky. Pastor Harold Kelly will officiate.
