Rita Mary (Ott) Stieber, age 73 of Norwalk, died Thursday morning, August 18, 2011 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
She was born October 11, 1937 in Norwalk to the late Melvin and Mildred (Grimmer) Ott. She graduated from St. Paul High School in 1955 and attended Notre Dame College in Cleveland. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society, numerous councils and committees for the church and school, Eucharistic Minister and a CCD teacher. She was recently named an Honorary Centarian by the Toledo Diocese and presented by Bishop Leonard Blair as a member of St. Joseph. She enjoyed playing the accordion and taught lessons in Willard, Sandusky, Norwalk and Berlin Heights for many years. She was a dedicated farmer’s wife, raised her seven children, prayed the rosary and attended daily Mass and the adoration chapel, enjoyed her flowers and gardening, volunteered at nursing homes to play the accordion for their entertainment while taking her grandchildren. She also played the accordion in numerous bands.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Robert E. Stieber of Norwalk; children, Cherri (Ron) Schaffer of Norwalk, Bob (Carrie) Stieber of Norwalk, Dan (Michelle) Stieber of Norwalk, Judy (Vince) Schloemer of Willard, Mary (Joe) Brown of Norwalk, Annette (Craig) Selka of Norwalk and Beth (Scott) White of Monroeville; 14 grandchildren, Lauren, Ross, Reid, Aiden, Stacia, Kirsten, Hannah, Josee, Maura, Evan, Chase, Claire, Lilly and Julia; sisters, Carol (Paul) Stieber and Betty (Jim) Smith; sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Hohler and Rita Jane (Charles) Singler; brothers-in-law, Paul (Carol) Stieber, Jim (Pat) Stieber and Joe Stieber; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Jim Ott.
Friends may call on Sunday from 2:00 – 6:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Monroeville with the Rev. William Pifher, pastor of the church, officiating along with con-celebrants, Rev. Ken Lill and Monsignor Charles Singler. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
