Ernest Paul "Ernie" Gast 72, Sandusky, passed away, Tuesday, September 12, 2017, in Stein Hospice Care Center.
Born and raised in Sandusky, Ernie graduated from Sandusky High School in 1963, where he played football, basketball and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2001. He also played football for Northwood University.
He was employed by Ford Motor Company and the City of Sandusky in the Water Department.
Ernie served in the U.S. Air Force, during Vietnam, and coached Sandusky Junior High School football for 10 years.
He is survived by his wife, Faye A. (Wright) Gast; children, Belinda (Diaundre Nickelson) Hunter, Sandusky, Milissa (Robert) Cundiff, McGaheysville, VA, Elisia "Lisa" (Jamie) Smith, Sandusky, and Phillip (Emily) Gast, Huron; brother, Curtis (Ann) Gast, Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Anissa Hunter, Jala Hunter, Zachary Smith, Justin Smith, Morgan Gast, Owen Gast, Ethan Cundiff, and Jillian Cundiff; mother-in-law, Annabelle Wright; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Hope and Michael Bailey; special friends, Bill Rutger, Carl Bahnsen, Dan McCarthy, and Larry Cook.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Alice Gast; and a brother, John Gast.
Friends may call on Saturday, September 16, 2017, from 9:30 A.M. until time of memorial services at 11 A.M. in Zion Lutheran Church, 503 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Rev. Dr. Eric L. Bodenstab will officiate. The American Legion Post 83 Color Guard will provide military honors.
