Duane C. Butler, 71, residing in Monroeville, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon, September 13, 2017 at his home.
Duane was born on September 25, 1945 in Sandusky, OH to the late Carl and Vivian (Robison) Butler.
Duane graduated from Townsend High School in Margaretta Township in 1963. He was a Veteran of the US Marine Corps stationed in Iceland who proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He retired from General Motors in 1999 after 32 years of service and continued working at Akro-Mills for another 7 years. Duane was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed arrowhead hunting, coin collecting, John Deere Tractors, the Chinese Buffet and spending time with his family and friends.
Duane is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Velma (Jackson) Butler, whom he married on October 11, 1969. He is also survived by his daughters, Rebecca Gonzalez and Cheryl Carroll both of Sandusky; sons, Shawn (Shelly) Butler of Sandusky and Matthew (Dana) Butler of Monroeville; grandchildren, Haley, Jose, Jason, Chelsea, Aurora, Kira, Joey, Morgan, Ryleigh and Leah; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; sisters, Bonnie Marquardt and Cynthia Chavez both of Sandusky; brothers, Gerald Butler and Richard (Brenda) Butler both of Sandusky; aunts, Ruth Brunner and Rhoda (Ernie) Friend and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Duane was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
In addition to his parents, Duane is preceded in death by two grandsons, Daniel J. Gonzalez in 2016 and Duane E. Gonzalez in 1993 and his sister, Patricia Stanely.
Friends may call on Sunday, September 17, 2017 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Friends may also visit at 10:00 am on Monday, September 18 at Calvary Baptist Church, 1810 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky until the time of funeral services at 11:00 am. Pastor David Hixson will officiate. The Marines Forever will conduct military honors after services.
