H. Wayne Allen

H. Wayne Allen, 89, of Norwalk, Ohio, passed away Friday, December 1, 2017 in his home.

He was born March 28, 1928 in Steubenville, Ohio, to the late Harry W. and Margaret (Richards) Allen, and lived in the Norwalk area for 68 years.

Wayne was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1946 to 1948, in Japan after the war, where he played trombone in the Army Band. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

Wayne worked at Norwalk Parts for 25 years, was Norwalk's first City School bus driver, and retired from Don Tester Ford, Norwalk, Ohio. Wayne was a member of the Norwalk Bowling Hall of Fame, enjoyed traveling, playing cards, playing softball, and singing karaoke. He also enjoyed writing poetry, and published several books of poems. Wayne also enjoyed the Cleveland Indians and going to spring training.

Wayne was a member of the 55 Club at St. Mary Catholic Church, Firelands Post #2743 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ken Bur Bell Post #41 American Legion, Eagles Aerie #711, and the former Moose Lodge.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Louise C. (Ross) Allen, of Norwalk, Ohio, by his sons, James W. (Tammy) Allen, of Overland Park, Kansas, and William D. (Laurie) Allen, of Avon, Ohio. He is also survived by his daughters, Pamela J. Derby, of Norwalk, Ohio, Catherine G. (John) Tucker, of Gahanna, Ohio, Judith L. (Rod) Sutherland, of New London, Ohio, and Susan M. (Rod) Wilson, of Norwalk, Ohio, by his grandchildren, Ken, Jennifer, Michael, Megan, Matt, Emily, Phillip, Alaina, Christa, Kelly, Zach, Ashley, Jake, Bailey, and Nate, by 11 great grandchildren and one on the way, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, by his sisters, Norma Roberts, Meryl Conrad, and Beryl Allen, in infancy.

Friends may call on Monday, December 4, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary Catholic Church, 38 West League Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Gilbert Mascarenhas will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery.
