Gene E. Hollinger, age 91, of Willard, Ohio, died Wednesday, August 31, 2011 after an extended illness.
He was born in Fremont Ohio February 19, 1920 to Edward A. Hollinger and Mae G. (Kaufman) Hollinger. Graduating from Fremont Ross High school in 1938 he completed an accounting degree at Tiffin University and subsequently was employed at Clyde Porcelain Steel now known as Whirlpool. In 1942 he enlisted in the Army and participated in World War II’s Battle of the Bulge and campaigns in France, Belgium and Germany. After the War he returned to Clyde Porcelain Steel and later worked at the Devilbiss Company in Toledo and Perfection Steel Body in Galion. In 1960 he began his final career as a farmer where he spent the next forty six years of his life enjoying nature and arguing with salesmen.
He is survived by his son and daughter in law, Tim and Julie Hollinger; grandchildren Andy Hollinger and Sarah Hollinger, of Willard; a brother, Dale Hollinger of Fremont.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marvel Hollinger and son Jeff Hollinger.
Friends may call Saturday, September 3, 2011 from 11:00 A.M.– 1:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A private graveside service will be held at North Fairfield cemetery.
