Melvin A. Martin

Melvin A. Martin, 92, of Monroeville passed away Monday evening, January 8, 2018 in the Norwalk Memorial Home following a brief illness.

He was born June 3, 1925 in Monroeville and had served in the U.S. Army during WWII.

Melvin was a life long farmer and was a bus driver for 35 years driving for Monroeville Local Schools and then Christie Lane. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society, Huron County Farm Bureau, Monroeville American Legion, and the Norwalk VFW. He was also an avid Cleveland Indians fan.

He is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Martin of North Olmstead, Patricia (Ron) Gates of Monroeville; one son, Kenneth (Karen) Martin of Monroeville; ten grandchildren, Amy (Dan) Pachuta, Andrew (Mary) South, Audrey (Joe) Regan, Jennifer (Chris) Stoll, Josh (Amy) Martin, Ryan (Lauren) Martin, Kyle (Leanne) Martin, Megan (Russ) Culler, Olivia (Chris) Doughty, and Aaron (Carrie Lortcher) Gates; twenty great grandchildren; one sister in law, Mildred Fox of Fostoria, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola M. (Seasly) Martin in 1999; his parents, August and Emma (Hipp) Martin; one grandson, Jason Martin; six siblings, Marie Gates, Erma Gates, Harold Martin, Howard Martin, Paul Martin, and Rita Siesel.

Friends may call today, Wednesday, January 10, 2018 from 4:00-7:00 PM in the Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe Street, Monroeville and from 9:00-10:00 AM on Thursday, January 11, 2018 in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, January 11, 2018 in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 66 Chapel Street, Monroeville. Fr. Ronald A. Schock will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroeville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church.
