Leroy Silvani, 89, residing in Sandusky, passed away early Thursday morning, January 11, 2018 at The Meadows at Osborn Park after a brief illness.
Leroy was born on June 9, 1928 in Sandusky, OH to the late Arthur and Mary (Cassidy) Silvani.
Leroy graduated from Sandusky High School in 1947 and received his bachelor's degree in education from Bowling Green State University, where he played football. He was a member of Sta. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, and the former IAB Club. He was a history teacher at Perkins and Chillicothe schools, where he also coached basketball. In 1963, at Chillicothe he started the football program. He owned and operated Le Gallerie Interiors for several years. Leroy was a member of the City Commission for two terms, 1992 to 1999. He was Vice President from 1994 to 1997 and President from 1998-1999.
Leroy is survived by his three nieces, Jeanine A. Silvani, Carol Jean McCloud and Mary Jo Silvani and nephew, Leonard Silvani.
In addition to his parents, Leroy is preceded in death by his sister, Clara and brothers, Leno, Deno, and Frank Silvani.
Friends may call on Monday, January 15, 2018 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Friends may also visit on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at 9:00am until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Sandusky.
