Richard Duane Whaley, 86, Sandusky, died Friday, January 12, 2018, in Stein Hospice Care Center.
He was born in Sandusky on December 8, 1931, to the late Henry and Mabel (Chamberlin) Whaley, and was a 1949 graduate of Sandusky High School.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Richard was employed as a journeyman electrician working out of the I.B.E.W. Local #867 for 39 years, and also retired from Ford Motor Company in 1996.
He was a member of the Perserverance Lodge #329 F. A.M., Singara Grotto, life member of V.F.W. Post #2529, American Legion Post #83, and the Amvets Post #1776, Logan, OH.
He is survived by his life partner, Joyce Duskins; daughter, Karen Ann Slaby, Sandusky; step sons, Randy Schaefer and Steven (Sandy) Schaefer, both of Bellevue; grandchildren, Laurie Meyers, Ashley Werner and Daren Werner; great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Corbin, Westin, Tatum, and Peyton; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ann (Kaphanke) Whaley; parents; sister, Vivian Curry; and brothers, Henry "Hank", Fred and Gene Whaley.
Friends may call on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, from 11 A.M. until time of funeral services at 12 P.M. Noon in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Rev. Dr. Eric L. Bodenstab will officiate. Burial will follow in Sand Hill Cemetery, where the American Legion Post 83 Color Guard will hold military honors.
