Charles "Charlie" Todd Carroll

Charles "Charlie" Todd Carroll, 67, of Dunedin, Florida, and Huron, Ohio, and formerly of Fairlawn, Ohio, passed away of natural causes on Friday, January 26, 2018, while on a business trip to Shanghai, China.

Charlie was born in Sandusky, Ohio on May 21, 1950, to the late Charles Edward and Jean (Hendrickson) Carroll and was the second of six children.

He spent his childhood fishing and boating on Lake Erie, collecting baseball cards, adoring his grandparents, and learning the family foundry business.

He earned his Bachelor's degree in Finance at John Carroll University in 1972, and he went on to obtain his Master's Degree in Business Administration from Miami University in 1973. He truly loved the foundry business and worked his way up to becoming President of G & C Foundry in 1979.

He married Mary Elizabeth Chambers in August of 1973, and they had two daughters, Sarah and Elizabeth "Betsy".

Charlie's favorite things were family and friends, boating on Lake Erie, and the foundry business. After serving as President of G & C Foundry Company, he formed a foundry consulting business, which he named Value Cast Services. This took him to China 76 times over 15 years. He spent his time there consulting and managing foundries near Shanghai.

Charlie's business, civic and service roles included; President of Ohio Cast Metals Association, former member and officer of Sandusky Jaycees, the Rotary Club of Sandusky, a member of the Board of the former Providence Hospital, and a Capital Campaign Chair for St. Colman's Church in Cleveland.

Charlie was held in high esteem by everyone who knew him. He was a wonderful husband and father, a steadfast friend, an amazing businessman, a hard worker, an avid outdoorsman, and a fan of all Cleveland sports.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth; two daughters, Sarah Carroll (Mark) Smith of Tampa, Florida, and Betsy Carroll (Jeff Cooper) of Los Angeles, California; his four grandsons, Patrick and Benjamin Smith and James and Charles Cooper; his three brothers, Howard Geoffrey, John Matthew, and David Carroll; his two sisters, Ann Bur and Molly Collins; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Sunday, February 4, 2018 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky.
