Helen M. Penza

Helen M. Penza, 91, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018, in her home.

She was born on October 26, 1926 to the late Richard O. and Helen (Harmon) Schmidt, in North Girard, Pennsylvania, and came to Norwalk, Ohio in 1988 from Bellevue, Ohio.

Helen was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She was also a member of the 4 County Young at Heart Club, Norwalk Senior Center, NARURE Unit #147 Bellevue Retirees, and the Huron Valley Quilt Guild.

Helen retired in 1986 from the Division Engineers Office of the Norfolk and Southern Railroad after 30 years. She was a former employee of the Nickle Plate Railroad. Helen was an avid quilter, enjoyed needle work, and reading.

Helen is survived by her children, David Penza of Norwalk, Ohio, John (Cindy) Penza of Norwalk, Ohio, and Martha J. (John) Bedeian of Devon, Pennsylvania, and by 5 grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Harold Schmidt of Saegertown, Pennsylvania, and by her sister, Carol San Frotello of Lake City, Pennsylvania.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Chester C. Penza in 2004, by her daughter, Barbara A. Penza in 2016, by her brothers, George Schmidt, Joseph Schmidt, and Edward Schmidt.

Friends may call on Friday, February 16, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary Catholic Church, 38 West League Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Gilbert Mascarenhas will officiate. Interment will be in St. Paul Cemetery.
