Amalia "Amy" McDowell

Amalia "Amy" McDowell, 62, Sandusky, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Valentine's Day, in Stein Hospice Care Center, following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on October 11, 1955 in Youngstown, OH, to the late Anton and Amalia (Povirk) Gregorc. Amy was a 1974 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School.

Amy worked 26 years for RGIS Inventory Company and retired on December 14, 2017, after working 7 happy years as a merchandiser for American Greetings.

She enjoyed working, traveling, casinos, and being with family and friends.

Amy is survived by her husband and best friend, Gregg, whom she married December 24, 1978; son, Shawn (Laura) McDowell, Sandusky; daughters, Erin (Shaun) Peet, Goderich, Ontario, Canada, and Kelly McDowell, Clyde, OH; step daughter, Shannon (Scott ) Mesarch, Twinsburg, OH; grandchildren, Denver, Carson, Madison, Mason, Logan, and Evan; seven brothers and sisters; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Vincent and Anthony.

Friends may call on Sunday, February 18, 2018, from 2-6 P.M. in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Prayer services will be held Monday at 9:30 A.M. at the funeral home, followed by a 10 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. Rev. Joe Steinbauer will officiate. Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Oakland Cemetery Ridgeview Niche.
