Elizabeth Ann (Lyon) Beachy, 87, residing in Sandusky, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Providence Care Center after a lengthy illness.
Elizabeth was born on August 9, 1930 in Akron, OH to the late Harold Morgan and Lucile (Budd) Lyon.
Elizabeth was raised in Ravenna, OH and graduated from Ravenna High School in 1948. She was a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University in 1952, where she majored in history and minored in English and Social Studies. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority and served as president her senior year.
Elizabeth married Robert "Bob" D. Beachy on July 12, 1952 and moved to Sandusky where Bob was employed by the Sandusky City Schools. Elizabeth taught in Sandusky from 1952 to 1960. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the College Women's Club and the former Women's Civic Club. She also served on the Board of Trustees of the Sandusky Library Association for ten years. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing golf and bridge. She appreciated antique glass, especially paper weights, and was a member of the Paper Weight Collector's Association.
Elizabeth enjoyed many summer and autumn months at their cottage, "Beach Haven" on Cape Cod, MA with her husband and family. Elizabeth was a devoted wife and mother, always very supportive of her daughters in their many school activities and gave encouragement to her husband during his years as head basketball coach and athletic director at Sandusky High School. She enjoyed teaching and reading American and World Literature.
Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 65 years, Bob D. Beachy. She is also survived by three daughters, Beth (Peter) Magnuson of La Porte, IN, Margaret "Meg" Clarkson (David Evenson) of Seattle, WA and Jane (Edward) Roberson of Wake Forest, NC; grandchildren, Michael Robert, Emily Ann, Elizabeth Grace and Erica (Cameron) Phillips and one great-grandchild, Ophelia Rae.
In addition to her parents, Elizabeth is preceded in death by a daughter in infancy and an infant sister and brother.
Friends may call on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 11:00am until the time of funeral services at 12:00pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Pastor Rob Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
