J. Ralph Henry, 85, residing in Summerville, SC and formerly of Sandusky, died Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at his residence.
J. Ralph was born on March 31, 1932 in Junction City, OH to the late James Russell and Zola Marie (Steen) Henry.
Ralph attended Miami University of Ohio, Capital University and University of Toledo. He was a Veteran of the United States Army during the Korean War. Ralph was the business manager and treasurer for Sandusky City Schools for 22 years, active in the Ohio and International Association of School Business, served as Regional President for Northwest Ohio. He was an auditor for Ohio schools and public libraries. Ralph was the Erie County Commissioner from 1985-1988; after retiring he served as interim school treasurer for both Huron and Sandusky Schools; a financial consultant for the Ohio Department of Education. Served 13 years on the Erie County Board of Election, President of Erie County Republican Committee. Ralph was a member of St Luke's Lutheran Church in Summerville, SC and past member of St John ELCA Sandusky, OH. He was also a member of Plumbrook Country Club, serving on the board of trustees as secretary and treasurer for twenty years; member of the American Legion and past member of the Sandusky Yacht Club and 50 year member Elks BPOE #285.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Judy (Rock) Garbash Henry, whom he married on December 11, 1994. He is also survived by his sons, Brian J. (Colleen Johnson) Henry of Pickerington, OH and Stuart G. (Dawn) Henry of Summerville, SC; step-sons, J. Edward (Dorine) Garbash of Auburn, IN and J. Michael Garbash of Ashland, OH; grandchildren, Abigail, Curtis, Kyle, Ian, Rachel, Alison, Jamie, and Jimmy and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ralph is preceded in death by his first wife, Berna K. (Myers) Henry in 1992 and brothers, Paul E. and Silas Lee Henry.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Oakland Cemetery, 2917 Milan Rd., Sandusky. Rev. Dr. Eric Bodenstab will officiate. The family of Ralph will be greeting friends following the grave side service at Plumbrook Country Club, 3712 Galloway Rd. Sandusky. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
