Richard Earl Thames, 64, Sandusky, died Thursday, February 22, 2018, in the Dayton VA Medical Center, Dayton, OH.
He was born on December 18, 1953 in Newton, MS to the late Joe N. and Earnesteen (Curry) Thames.
He was a 1972 graduate of Sandusky High School, and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He returned home to Sandusky and married Glenda McCarty, and together they raised six children.
Richard worked at Sandusky International. He was a member Ebenezer Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school, the NAACP, and was a strong advocate for social justice.
He leaves to cherish his memory sons, Stephan (Crystal) Greenhill, Andre Greenhill, Dammeone (Melinda) Gray, Rich (Rosie) Thomas, and Emmanuel (Nicole) Thames; daughters, Tokeya (Reginald) Greenhill Cash and Chanel Thames; sister, Nena A. Dorsey; brother, Joe A. Thames; twenty one grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends. Richard was a loving father, grandfather, brother, teacher, and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Tyree Dower and a brother-in-law, Edward Dorsey.
Friends may call on Saturday, March 3, 2018, from 10 A.M. until time of funeral services at 11 A.M. in Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1215 Pierce St., Sandusky. Rev. Clayton E. Howard will officiate. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
