Charles J. Jackson, Jr., 65, of Marietta, Georgia and formerly of Sandusky, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Wellstar Cobb Hospital in Austell, Georgia.
He was born on July 10, 1952 in Montgomery, AL, to the late Charlie J. Jackson, Sr. and Mattie J. (Frazier) Jackson.
After his family relocated to Sandusky in 1957, Charles graduated from Perkins High School in 1971, where he ran track, played football and basketball. He earned his Bachelor's degree from the University at Albany SUNY, a Master's degree in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma and a Master's degree in Information Technology, Information Assurance and Security from the American InterContinental University.
Charles proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy where he spent nearly thirty years providing communications and information technology expertise with emphasis on Western Pacific Allied and Joint Military Communication Special Operations. Charles's military education included NAVMACS Operator, Data Base Manager, RM "C" School, CMS Custodian, Naval Security Manager and CTT INDOC. During his years of service, he received the following awards: Navy Expeditionary Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Humanitarian Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, National Defense Service medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medals (KSA and Kuwait), Battle "E" Ribbon, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation medal, and Joint Meritorious Unit Commendation.
After his retirement from the Navy, Charles worked in Information Technology for several companies, most recently for the Defense Information System Agency.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his son, Charles J. (Vanessa) Jackson, III; daughters Monica Green and Sarita Ann Jackson; brothers, Andrew (Yvonnjanai) Frazier, Donnell Jackson, and Paul Allen Jackson, all of Sandusky and Richard Jackson, Port Clinton; sisters, Lena Mae Patrick, Montgomery, AL, Betty Jean (Harvey) Nicholson and Mattie Pearl Jackson, both of Sandusky, and Elizabeth Jackson, Columbus, OH; three grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and special friends including Danny Jackson, Earl E. Smith II, Donald Reid, Wayne Dailey, Ralph Jackson, Brian Ringfield, Fermon Reid, Glen Reid, Adriel Carr, and Ester Jackson; a special sister-in-law, Doris J. Frazier.
He was preceded in death by his parents; maternal and paternal grandparents; sisters, Shirley Ann Jackson and Pauline Jackson; niece, Doris Marie Frazier, and nephew, Michael Sean Frazier.
Friends may call on Monday, March 12, 2018, from 6-8 P.M. in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 12:30 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery, where full military honors will be conducted.
