Faydean "Gus" Showalter, 82, of Monroeville passed away unexpectedly Sunday evening, March 18, 2018 in the Fisher Titus Medical Center, Norwalk.
He was born March 5, 1936 in Bellevue to the late Fay and Elsie (Stegman) Showalter.
He was a U.S. Marine Corp. veteran. Gus was retired from Bowling Green State University, Firelands College Campus, Huron and from St. Joseph Catholic Church and Elementary School, Monroeville, Ohio where he had been employed for 20 plus years. He had also previously worked at Bellevue Manufacturing and Columbus Showcase, both of Bellevue, Ohio.
Gus was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Monroeville American Legion, where he had worked the Friday Fish Fry's, and Twin Lake golf course in Bellevue. His hobbies included golfing, visiting the Amish Country, and being a proud grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joann A. (Gates) Showalter; two daughters, Caroline (Mike) Cole of Milan and Shelley (Shawn) Fitzgerald of Monroeville; two grandsons, Joshua (Marisa) Mark of Monroeville and Jordan (Bailee) Cole of Milan; brothers and sisters in law, John (MaryKaye) Gates of Norwalk, Ruth Carroll of Monroeville, Sharon (Gerald) Ruffing of Bellevue, and Ted (Bev) Thurston of Monroeville; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Jack, George, Rennie, Robert, and Albert Showalter; four sisters, Jane Kromer, KayAnn Kromer, Geraldine Andy, and Doris Palko.
Friends may call Wednesday, March 21, 2018 from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe Street, Monroeville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, March 22, 2018 in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 66 Chapel Street, Monroeville. Fr. Ronald A. Schock will officiate. Burial will be held in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroeville.
