George Washington Zumsteg, 70, residing in Sandusky, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018 at University Hospitals Cleveland.
George was born on February 22, 1948 in Akron, OH to the late William and Ruth (Huhn) Zumsteg.
George received his Associate's Degree from the University of Akron. He was a staff sergeant of the US Army serving nine years of active duty. He dedicated his life to his military service and was it important to him to raise his children as patriots. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and tending to his Bonsai Tree that was gifted to him by his son.
George is survived by his daughter, Andrea Zumsteg of Mesa, AZ; sons, Erik (Christine) Zumsteg of KS and Alexander Zumsteg of Akron; grandchildren, Erik C., Charlotte P., and Leah B.; sister, Diane Porter of FL and nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by his son, Kurtis L. Zumsteg and brother, William "Sonny" Zumsteg.
Friends may call on Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 10:00 am until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 am at the Ohio Veterans Home Giffin Chapel, 3416 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Chaplain Paul Birmingham will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date in the Ohio Veterans Cemetery, Sandusky.
