Virginia Smith

Virginia Smith, 87, Sandusky, entered into eternal rest, Thursday, April 12th, 2018 at Providence Care Center after a brief illness.

Virginia was born August 4th, 1930 to the late Josephine Webb and John Williams in Greenville, South Carolina.

She relocated to Sandusky Ohio in 1946 with her Aunt Mary Rogers and her family. She performed domestic work and was employed by the Philco Electrical Plant. She completed the Sandusky Board of Education Adult Education Program April 1st 1968, an achievement in which she was very proud of.

She was happily married to the late, great Claude "Pickle Slim" Smith until his passing in September of 2007.

Virginia was a devoted member of Porter's Memorial CME Church for 63 years where she sang in the choir, was a Licensed Exhorter, and a member of the Stewardess Board for more than 40 years, serving faithfully for many of those years as the president of the board, a ministry that she held with great honor. She faithfully attended Bible Study and Sunday School, often times facilitating the class. She spent most of her life encouraging others to pray and to look to Lord for everything and in every situation.

Virginia enjoyed gardening, crocheting, knitting, and tending to her flowers both at home and at church.

She leaves to cherish her memories four children; one son, Ralph (Jill) Shumate, Green Springs OH; three daughters, Linda Smith, Kimberly (Gerald Sr. dec.) Smith, and Hope (Anthony Sr.) Watson, all of Sandusky, OH. Twelve Grandchildren; Tony (Barb) Jones, Donyell Mclaughlin, Kelsey Jackson, Teegan Shumate, Lontayne Shumate, DaShan Smith, Chante Smith, April Smith, Shayla (Deekia) Williams, DeCarlo (Tiffany) Smith, ShaQuala Knight and Anthony Watson Jr. Thirty-nine great grand children and six great-great grandchildren, living in various cities and states. Three sisters: Emma (Eddie dec.) Smoot, Judy (L.Z.) Pearson, and Martha Webb all of Sandusky. Special cousin, Ossie(Eddie dec.) Jordan of Sandusky, Ohio. A host of nieces, nephews, and cousins in whom she adored and cherished, adopted daughter Rosa Goudy; adopted sons; David "Huncey" (Sharon) Jones and John "Water Boy"(Cookie) Woods, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Claude, parents, sisters; Louise Johnson and Alline Brown, Sisters-in-Law, Ruth Smith, Bernice Smith, Nellie Smith and Earline Edwards. Brothers-in-Law, Eddie Smoot, Daniel Johnson, John C. Brown, Samuel Smith, James D. Smith, Earnest Smith, Sr., and Harry C. Edwards.

Friends may call on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 from 6-8 P.M. in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Virginia's Homegoing Service will be 12 P.M. Noon on Thursday in Porters Memorial C.M.E. Church, 1722 Third St., Sandusky. Rev. Vaughn Newsom will officiate, and Elder Bruce Gibson will provide the eulogy. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
