Valeria Jean Yochem, 87, residing in Sandusky, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Parkvue Health Care Center after an illness.
Valeria was born on November 14, 1930 in Sandusky, OH to the late Dr. John A. and Margaret E. (Schweinfurth) Yochem Sr.
Val had a successful career as an artist, winning both national and international awards in her field of commercial art. She was a 1948 graduate from St. Mary's High School and went on to the Chicago Art Institute and the Cleveland Art Institute. After a brief time as an elementary school art teacher in the Sandusky Schools, she moved on to design album covers for Columbia Records. Her career returned to elementary art as the editor of Instructor Magazine for teachers and then returning home to Sandusky as the advertising artist for American Crayon Company.
Val is survived by her sister-in-law, Christine Yochem of Huron and many Schweinfurth and Yochem cousins.
In addition to her parents, Val is preceded in death by brothers, John A. Jr and Daniel R. Yochem.
Private family graveside services will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
