Merlin L. Baker, 80, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky, Ohio.
He was born to the late Horace Ramond, and Leona Adell (Hinckley) Baker on June 1, 1937, and was a lifelong area resident.
Merlin graduated from North Fairfield High School, and was a member of New London Alliance Church. He retired from Ford Motor Company in 1988, and was previously employed by the Huron County (Human Services) Maintenance Department.
Merlin owned Baker and Lykins Home Insulation Company in North Fairfield, Ohio, he volunteered on the North Fairfield fire department, and was a member of the North Fairfield Lions Club.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing fast pitch baseball for the North Fairfield Indians, where he had been scouted by minor league teams. Merlin also enjoyed traveling, family vacations, wintering in Lakeland, Florida, and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan.
Merlin enjoyed most of all, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Ruth Ann (Wilhelm) Baker, by his son, Chris M. Baker (William Yockey), of Oberlin, Ohio, by his daughters, LaCheril (Bryan) Brown, of Norwalk, Ohio, Michele (John) Churchill, of Huron, Ohio, and Angela (Tom) Hipp, of Norwalk, Ohio.
Merlin is also survived by five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, by his siblings, Nadine Lykins, of North Fairfield, Ohio, and Loren F. Baker, of St. Augustine, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Wayne Baker, and Vaughn Raymond Baker.
Friends may call on Saturday, April 28, 2018, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. at New London Alliance Church, 4625 OH-162, New London, Ohio 44851. Rev. Doug Lang will officiate. Interment will be at North Fairfield Cemetery, North Fairfield, Ohio.
