Carl L. Myers

Carl L. Myers, 72, passed from this life into the loving arms of his heavenly father, after a lengthy, hard fought battle with COPD on Monday, May 21, 2018, in his home.

He was born in Sandusky, Ohio, on July 3, 1945, to Betty and Joseph Myers, the eldest of 6 children, and moved to the Collins area as a young boy, where he attended Wakeman Elementary.

Carl was a 1963 graduate of Wakeman High School, where he lettered in football all four years, and was on a state ranked team his senior year. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, from 1965 to 1967. Carl was a proud member of the N.R.A.

He worked for Janesville Cotton Mills, and Sheller Globe in Norwalk, and then retired in 2005 after 36 years with New Departure Hyatt in Sandusky, Ohio. Carl was a journeyman machine repair machinist.

He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed being "one" with nature, whether he was hunting, camping, fishing, or just sitting in the woods enjoying the sights and sounds of God's beauty. Carl enjoyed tournament catfish fishing with his son Randy, and they made many great memories.

He married the love of his life, Elaine Egle, on October 5, 1968, and they spent nearly 50 years building their lives together. They have 3 children, Paul (Dee) Myers, Randy A. Myers, and Janelle (Jeff) Dymond, all of Norwalk, Ohio. They were deeply blessed with 3 grandsons, Spencer Myers, Dominic, and Gabriel Dymond, who all loved to spend time with their "Papa". He was so proud of them all. The best times of his life was when he was interacting with his "little loves".

Carl had a special relationship with God. He belonged to St. Paul Catholic Church, where he gave back in many ways. He had previously been a Eucharistic Minister, taught CCD, and served in the pilot program for engaged couples in the Toledo Diocese. Carl and his wife then coordinated the Engaged Couple Program for the Sandusky Deanery, they also worked as a team couple for many Marriage Encounters.

Carl is survived by his brothers, Tom, of Collins, Ohio, Bernie (June), of Monroeville, Ohio, Jim, of Hollywood, Florida, Rodger, of Sandusky, Ohio, and sister, Nancy (Duane) Molnar, also of Florida.

He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Mary Frances Egle, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and several sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, May 24, 2018, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul Church, 91 E. Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Msgr. Kenneth Morman will officiate. Interment will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Norwalk, Ohio.
