Ricky "Mitch" Schaffer

Ricky "Mitch" Schaffer, 57, of Monroeville passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, May 22, 2018 at his residence following his courageous battle with brain cancer.

He was born September 7, 1960 in Norwalk and was a 1978 graduate of Monroeville High School.

Mitch owned and operated his family's third generation farm alongside his two brothers and nephew. He also served as a Peru Township Trustee, N.O.R.W. Board of Directors, Huron River Joint Fire District Board, and was the president of the Monroeville Rod and Gun Club. Mitch was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed his yearly hunting trips out west, as well as family trips to the Carolina beaches.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 33 years, Debora A. (Steiber) Schaffer; two daughters, Trisha (Broc) Bauer of Genoa, OH and Lynsey (Andrew) Welfle of Norwalk; three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Braxton, Charlotte, and two baby girls on the way; his mother, Joanne Schaffer of Monroeville; two brothers, Jay (Judy) Schaffer and Roger Schaffer, both of Monroeville; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carl J. Schaffer, Jr.; two brothers, David and Garry Schaffer; and one nephew, Jason Schaffer.

Friends may call Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 2:00 - 8:00 PM in the Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe Street, Monroeville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 25, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 66 Chapel Street, Monroeville. Fr. Ronald Schock will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life at the family farm after the Mass of Christian Burial.
