Clarence "Clare" E. Everhart, Jr., M.D.

Clarence "Clare" E. Everhart, Jr., M.D., 91, of Sandusky, died peacefully June 29, 2018 at home.

Clare was born in Cleveland, Ohio, son of Clarence and Grace Kohl Everhart.

He was a graduate of Cleveland Heights High School (1944), Western Reserve University (1948), George Washington University School of Medicine, Washington DC (1952), and following a Residency in Pathology at St. Luke's Hospital in Cleveland, OH, he received his Board Certification in Pathology in 1957.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed on Adak Island, Aleutian Islands of Alaska. Clare received an Army Commendation Ribbon for his work as a hospital medical laboratory technician during a diphtheria outbreak.

During his 38 years of active practice, Dr. Everhart was the hospital pathologist at St. Luke's Hospital, Cleveland, OH, Golden Valley Health Center, Minneapolis, MN, and Providence Hospital, Sandusky, OH. Since 1984, he and his wife, Janet, have lived in Sandusky on the shore overlooking Lake Erie. He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Dr. Everhart is survived by his beloved wife, Janet M. Kelley Everhart, of 65 years. They enjoyed life together to its fullest. Fond memories were made as they travelled the US and over 90 foreign countries together. He is also survived by their five children, Deb, Minneapolis, MN, Becky (Tony) Czarnik, Reno, NV, Doug (Ruth), Sterling, VA, Bob (Rita), Coon Rapids, MN, and Sue, Columbus, OH; and five granddaughters, Kelly Czarnik, Hannah and Clara Everhart, Emily and Ellen Everhart.

Clare was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence E. and Grace (Kohl) Everhart; and sister, Phyllis.

A private family Celebration of Life will be held in his honor. Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, is handling arrangements.
