Carol E. Balduff, 82, residing in Castalia, passed away Sunday morning, July 8, 2018. She was born December 10, 1935 to L.B. "Ted" Hacker and Erma Catherine (Heyman) Hacker.
Carol was a lifelong Castalia resident. She graduated from Margaretta High School in 1954. She was the Erie County Fair Queen later that same year.
She was the beloved wife to her highschool sweetheart, Harold Balduff. Their first date was in May of 1953. They became engaged while Harold was in the army serving in Japan. The devoted couple wrote to one another nearly every day before he returned home. They were married June 15, 1958. They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Carol took classes through the Teacher Cadet Program at Sandusky High School. She later finished her teaching degree through Bowling Green State University. She was a teacher for the Margaretta School District where she touched the lives of hundreds of children before retiring in 1998 after 30 years of service to our local children.
She was an exceptional seamstress who made special blankets, quilts, stuffed toys, sweatshirts, vests, and costumes for her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her loving husband, Harold K. Balduff. She is also survived by three sons, Dean (Jackie) Balduff of New Lenox, Illinois, and Bradley (Teal ) Balduff and Brian (Christine Stamp) Balduff of Castalia; grandchildren Ashley Balduff (Gary Grueshaber), Erik (Macy) Balduff, Brenna (Wilson) Henry, Dustin Balduff (Carolyn Walker), Drew Balduff, Trent Balduff, Austin Balduff, and Magen Damschroder; great grandchildren Parker LaMarca, Cora Grueshaber, Nash Henry, Kaden Balduff; siblings Alyce Ann Felske, Jane Hoelzer, and twin brother Charles Hacker; brother-in-law Leon (Virginia) Balduff, and sister-in-law Jeanne (Ed) Usselman and several other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her eldest sister, Pearl Lydia Schmitt.
Friends and family may call from 5-8 PM on Thursday, July 12th, 2018, at Ransom Funeral & Cremation Service, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia, and from 9:00 AM until time of services on Friday, July 13th, 2018, at 10 AM in the Castalia Congregational United Church of Christ 205 Main St., Castalia.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to contribute to Carol's memory may do so to the Castalia Congregational United Church of Christ, where Carol was a lifetime member.
