Richard K. Garvin, 89, Sandusky, passed away Friday, August 3, 2018, in the care of Providence Care Center.
Originally from Marion, OH, and a graduate of Marion Harding High School, Richard was a gentleman, devoted loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sandusky.
He enjoyed living along Lake Erie. Richard volunteered wherever there was a need. He owned Sandusky Marine Service, a marine mechanic servicing up to 117' yachts. Richard later received status of Merchant Marine Officer, Captaining private yachts and Ferry boats with both 100 ton Coast Guard and Masters Licenses, traveling the Great Lakes and Inter Coastal waters.
A veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force, during the Korean War, and part of the "Strategic Air Command" mission. Sergeant Garvin was a flight engineer on the KC-97 Strato-Tanker plane, refueling planes mid-air, earning 6 medals.
He is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Joel) Feyedelem; his favorite grandson, Ian; brother-in-law, Dick Roads; nieces, nephews, and friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Peg (Keating) Garvin; and a son, Rick Garvin.
The family wishes to thank Providence Care Center, Serving our Seniors, Veterans Administration, and Stein Hospice for bringing comfort over the years.
Cremation has taken place in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Private burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery. Words of comfort may be sent to Barbara, Joel, or Ian Feyedelem, 3615 Plumbrook Circle, Sandusky, OH 44870.
