Laura Margaret (Long) Stellhorn, 95, of Sandusky, died late Thursday, August 23, 2018 in Firelands Regional Medical Center.
She was born on February 9, 1923 in Thornville, OH to the late Harry P. Long and Cora (Libbe) Long.
She graduated from Dundee High School, Dundee, MI in 1941 and from Capital University, Columbus, OH in 1945. She married Theodore Stellhorn, Jr. on February 6, 1972.
Laura taught at Monroe School from 1945-1948. Always a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church, she was a parish worker (Educational Director) at Zion from 1948-1972, and was the church organist from 1945-2007. She continued to play the organ as needed well after that.
She was a member of the Zonta Club of Greater Sandusky, was active in Zion Lutheran Church Women, was a board member of the Sandusky Concert Association, and was active as a volunteer in many area organizations.
Laura is survived by her step-daughter, Jenny (Robert) Dodson; daughter-in-law, Margaret Stellhorn; sister, Martha Ice; grandson, Stephen (Paula) Stellhorn); granddaughters, Rebekah (Paul) Wernsing, Suzanne (Moran) Nhel, and Stephanie (Jose) Dodson-Mercado; great-grandchildren, Ryan Stellhorn, Lauren (Gregory) Hiller, Katie and Emily Stellhorn, Andrew and Phillip Nhel, Leon DeDrage, and Benjamin Wernsing; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Stellhorn, Jr., sister, Mary Long; brother, Joseph Long; and step-son, Theodore Stellhorn, III.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, August 27 in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in Zion Lutheran Church, 503 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Rev. Dr. Eric L. Bodenstab will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
