Edward H. Ciersezwski

Edward H. Ciersezwski, 87, of Norwalk, Ohio, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2018 in Gaymont Nursing Center.

He was born November 29, 1930 in Dillonvale, Ohio, to the late John A. and Veronica (Lapinski) Ciersezwski, and came to this area in 1953 with his late wife, Emma.

Ed was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He served as First Sargent in the Infantry during his tour in Korea.

He was an active member of St. Paul Catholic Church, serving as a greeter, and adult server. Ed attended the University of Virginia, School of Continuing Education, in the Field of Supervisory, and Management.

He worked on the former Wheeling, Lacawana, and Erie Railroad, the Nickle Plate Railroad, Norfolk & Western Railroad, and Norfolk and Southern Railroad, for 38 years as a brakeman, conductor, and yardmaster retiring in 1990.

Ed was an Assistant Football coach for St. Paul High School from 1985 to 1997, and was also an Assistant Coach for the St. Paul High School girl's softball, and track teams. He was an Assistant Football Coach at Norwalk High School in 1991, returning to St. Paul Schools in 1992, until his retirement in 1997.

Ed was a member of the Norwalk Police Department as a Parking Enforcement Officer from 1992 to 1997. He was a 3rd degree member of Knights of Columbus Council #626, and Ken Bur Bell Post #41 American Legion. Ed was an active member, and former president, secretary, and treasurer of the Norfolk and Western Railroad Retiree's Club, was a member of the Walkers Club of America, and a member of the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees Inc. Unit #147.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking, and walking. His family would like to thank the special nursing staff at Gaymont Nursing Center, for his care.

Ed is survived by his children, Renee L. Smales McNutt (John) of Dover, Ohio, Denise A. Meek of Fremont, Ohio, and Ed (Carolynn) Ciersezwski, of Norwalk, Ohio, by his grandchildren, Lee Smales, Scott Smales, Jim Sayre, Jill Van Dresser, Jeff Ciersezwski, and Kristin Shullick, by 17 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Emma H. (Kerner) Ciersezwski, in 2017, by his son in law, Terry Smales, by his grandson, Chad Sayre, by 3 brothers, and 5 sisters.

Friends may call on Monday, October 29, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 East Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Msgr. Kenneth Morman will officiate. Interment will be in St. Paul Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by American Legion Post#41.
