Donald J. Krafty, 82, residing in Sandusky, transitioned peacefully to his eternal rest early Monday morning, December 31, 2018 at OSU Medical Center surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness.
Don was born on February 15, 1936 in Venice, Ohio to the late Samuel L. and Luella (Rader) Krafty.
He attended St. Mary's High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving honorably in the Korean War.
On June 20, 1959 he married the love of his life, Grace Costantino, whom he missed every day for the past 33 years and is now reunited with in their Heavenly home.
Don was retired from Tsubakimoto (Union Chain) where he worked for over 50 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the American Legion Post 83, and the VFW Post 2529.
He enjoyed classic cars and could be seen driving around town in his own classic 1965 Ford Mustang. Don loved Cleveland sports and The Ohio State Buckeyes. Don's greatest joy in life was his family. His grandchildren gave him new life after losing his wife on March 18, 1985. His big heart and selfless being will be tremendously missed by all.
Don is survived by his two children, Sandy (Jack Meyers) Ehrhardt of Sandusky and Sam (Jill) Krafty of Delaware; five grandchildren, Bryce (Kaitlyn Girard) Ehrhardt, Bryin (Victoria) Ehrhardt, Brittany (Ryan) Volpe, Allison (Myles Robinson) Krafty, and Samantha Krafty; great-grandchildren, Kali Grace King and Matthew Ehrhardt; sister, Donna (Dutch) Greulich; half-brother, Leroy (Valerie) Wobser; sister in law, Theresa (Martin) Claus; numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Don is preceded in death by his sisters and brothers-in-law, JoAnn (George) Krieger, Mary (John) Bittner; half-brothers, Milton Krafty and Alden Krafty; half-sister, Peggy (Jack) Mineo; mother and father-in-law, Ralph and Josephine (Nasonti) Costantino.
Private family services will be held Friday, January 4, 2019 in Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Deacon Jeff Claar will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Our Dad/PaPa taught us so much about life and love. He never wanted to be the center of attention, so it was his wish to have a private service and burial.
Our family would like to thank every single person who has touched his life. He was our Hero and is now our Angel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Olentangy Liberty Athletic Boosters, 3584 Home Road, Powell, Ohio 43065.
