Ellen Theresa (Corbett) Wensink, 71, residing in Monroeville, unexpectedly passed away Monday, January 7, 2019 at Cleveland MetroHealth after a brief illness.
Ellen was born on October 11, 1947 in Columbus, OH to the late Edward and Evelyn (Gerlach) Corbett.
Ellen had attended Sandusky St. Mary's High School (1963-1964) and graduated from Whetstone High School in 1965 in Columbus, OH. She received her Bachelor of Arts in English from The Ohio State University in 1968, where she belonged to the Alpha Xi Delta sorority. She received her Master's Degree in Library Science from the University of Kentucky. She was the bookkeeper for the family business, Wensink Seeds, in Monroeville, OH.
Ellen was a member and supporter of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Monroeville, OH.
She was also a member of the American Association of University Women where she held multiple leadership positions and was awarded the 2002 Woman of Excellence award. Ellen was involved as a volunteer of The Old House Guild of Sandusky and Sandusky State Theatre. She dedicated many years of service to the Erie County 4-H program including being a club advisor for the Oxford Hustlers. Ellen was a lifelong member of the Erie County Farm Bureau.
Ellen enjoyed traveling with family and friends. She and her husband toured throughout the United States including Alaska, Puerto Rico and Hawaii. She also traveled abroad visiting Canada, China, Panama, Costa Rico, Mexico, many Caribbean islands and much of Western Europe with her favorites being Ireland and Germany.
She enjoyed many years of ballroom dancing despite her husband's two left feet.
Ellen was an avid reader, loved flower gardening, taking her dog Abby for walks and above all enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Ellen is survived by her husband of 48 years, Robert Wensink, whom she married on August 21, 1970. She is also survived by her daughter, Elizabeth and her husband David Bressler of Willow Springs, IL; son Thomas and his wife Jennifer Wensink of Sandusky; grandchildren, Nicholas, Brynn, Madison, Mackenzie and Braxton and numerous other relatives.
In addition to her parents, Ellen is preceded in death by her brother, Edward Corbett.
Friends may call on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave, Sandusky. A mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 66 Chapel St. Monroeville, OH. Father Ron Schock will officiate. Burial will follow in Sand Hill Cemetery, Castalia.
