Mark Edward May, 67, residing in Arena, Wisconsin, formerly of Port Clinton and Sandusky, OH passed away peacefully early Sunday morning at home on January 13, 2019 surrounded by his loving family after living with cancer the last two and a half years.
Mark was born on September 27, 1951 in Sandusky, OH to the late Ralph and Mildred (Thornton) May.
Mark graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1969 and received a B.S. in Pharmacy from Ohio State University in 1974. He married Sharon (Houghton) May in 1975 and they raised 3 sons in Port Clinton, Ohio. Mark began his career as a pharmacist at Providence Hospital and continued at Gray Drug, Bassett's Market and Heartland Health Care. In 2016 Mark and Sharon retired to Wisconsin to be closer to some of their grandchildren. Mark was a former member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Elks, Port Clinton Yacht Club, the Port Clinton City School Board and Immaculate Conception School Council. In his spare time Mark enjoyed boating, fishing, reading and collecting books, traveling, golfing, and playing cards and board games. He was an avid sports fan and coached Little League soccer and baseball, rooted passionately for Ohio State football and the Cleveland Indians, as well as the Oregon High School Soccer team, which his son Kevin coached. He loved vacations with family and friends, attending his grandchildren's school events, and making pancakes for his grandchildren after a sleepover. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Mark had a great sense of humor and a big heart!
Mark is survived by his loving wife, Sharon (Houghton) May; 3 sons, David (Maggie) May of Richland Center, Wisconsin, Kevin (Erin) May of Brooklyn, Wisconsin, Eric (Amanda) May of Independence, Kentucky; 8 grandchildren, Rowan, Conor, Stella, Oscar, Violet, Leo, Joseph and Millie; 3 sisters, Carolyn (Butch) Sisler of Bruceton Mills ,West Virginia; Christine May of Sandusky, Ohio and Cathy (Paul) Burger of Bowling Green, Ohio; 2 brothers, Steven (Linda) May of Huron, OH and John (Keri) May of Sandusky, OH and twelve nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may come on Sunday, January 20, 2019 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, with eulogies and a musical performance at 4:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Avenue, Sandusky, OH 44870. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Monday, January 21, 2019 at 9:30 am before the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 428 Tiffin Avenue, Sandusky, OH 44870. Father Jeff Walker will be presiding.
