Buddy Muratori

Buddy Muratori, 92, residing in Sandusky, passed away Monday evening, March 25, 2019, surrounded by family at Firelands Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

Buddy was born on June 4, 1926 in Sandusky, OH to the late Anthony and Theresa (Pedini) Muratori.

Buddy was a 1947 graduate from Sandusky High School. He began his tile contracting career as an apprentice under Paul Colussi, until he took ownership of the company, Sandusky Ceramic Tile & Marble. Buddy was passionate about his career, telling everyone he met that he was "The Tile Man" and would never really retire. He was a Veteran of the US Army who proudly served his country during WWII. Buddy was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, the American Legion Post #83, VFW #2529, AMVETS #29, Elks #285, Sandusky Eagles, Sandusky K of C #546, Orioles Club, former IAB Club, 19th Hole Golf League and the Erie County Dartball League.

Buddy loved playing cards with his family, golfing, and going to casinos. As a young man, he enjoyed playing sports, especially softball and volleyball. Also upon returning from the service, he played semi-pro football for the Sandusky Maroons. Above all else, Buddy enjoyed gathering with his family and friends, and meeting complete strangers.

Buddy is survived by his wife, Chris (Lawrence) Muratori, whom he married on December 9, 1977. He is also survived by his daughters, Cindy Muratori Thompson of Sandusky, Maria (Matt Cox) Muratori of Columbus, and Shannon (Tim Hanchin) Wikel of Akron; sons, David (Nancy Baxter) Muratori of Wooster, and Shawn Judge of Oregon; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Dora Mira of Bellevue; loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and the best neighbors in the world.

In addition to his parents, Buddy is preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth (Meinzer) Muratori in 1967; sisters, Jayne Egger, Dena Corso, Mary Phillips, Josephine Hoelzer-Flettner and Rose Benkey-Hoelzer; brothers, Madio, Charles and Louis "Louie" Muratori and 3 siblings in infancy, Frank, Florence and Anthony Muratori.

Friends may call on Friday, March 29, 2019 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 10:00 am at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
