Maria Schliepp, 95, residing in Sandusky, passed away Saturday evening, April 20, 2019 at Parkvue Healthcare Center.
Maria was born Wladyslawa Gruszynska on March, 24, 1924 in Zoravica, Poland a district of Sandomir to the late Walenty and Maria (Marzec) Gruszynska.
Maria, sent to Auschwitz with her 11 of 13 brothers and sisters, was the only one to not perish during their time spent there. Following the Holocaust, Maria immigrated to America. Years later, she found her youngest sister, Anna, whom they had hidden away during the Holocaust, and helped her immigrate as well.
Maria retired from the former GM New Departure Hyatt Bearing plant in Sandusky. She was a former member of Holy Angels Catholic Church and Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Maria was a very loving, caring and graceful woman, animal advocate and devoted to her family.
Maria is survived by her granddaughter, Amanda (Ted) Novak; grandson, Jeremiah R. Cook; great-grandsons, Jeremy K. Cook, Joseph and Jacob Gosser, Theodore "Teddy" Novak V and Ethan Novak; nephews, Robert and Daniel Cook and several great-great nieces, nephews and family in Poland.
In addition to her parents, Maria is preceded in death by her daughter, Maria Cook and sister, Anna Cook.
Private family services will be held. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
