Lester E. Lee, 101, of Sandusky, passed away on Thursday morning, May 16, 2019 in the Ohio Veterans Home after a brief illness.
He was born on July 28, 1917 in Holmes County, Ohio to the late Earl and Grace (Young) Lee.
Lester served in the Army in WWII. He was a staff sergeant, and saw active duty in both the European and Pacific theaters. He was an automotive mechanic, repairing and maintaining Army equipment and keeping vehicles in good condition. Upon returning home, he worked as a plumber and pipefitter for Union 42 and retired from there.
He married Elizabeth J. Griffith on February 2, 1946. He was a member of St. Stephen's UCC, Sandusky. He loved music, auctions, restoring antique furniture, woodworking, and always had a project in the works.
Lester is survived by his son, James D. Lee, of Garden Grove, California; daughter, Nancy (Roy) Shook, of Canfield, OH; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth J. Lee, on December 27, 1985; and several siblings.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, May 20 in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21 in the funeral home with Pastor Ryan Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park with the Marines Corps Forever Honor and Color Guard providing military honors.
