Blanche V. (Leek) Washek, 83, residing in Sandusky, passed away Sunday morning, June 16, 2019 at the University of Toledo Medical Center following a brief illness.
Blanche was born on February 1, 1936 in Moundsville, WV to the late Charles and Anna (Lucas) Leek.
Blanche had worked at the former Mr. Wiggs and Hills Department stores before retiring from the Erie County Board of Elections after many years of service as a director. She was a member of Norwalk Church of Christ, Erie County Democratic Women, Daughters of Mokanna, Order of the Eastern Star and Motry. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, traveling, flowers and spending time with her family and friends.
Blanche is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Robert) Bibb of Wakeman, Nancy (Mark) Zubek of Elyria and Lisa Washek of Sandusky; sons, Bernard Christopher (Ruth Anne) Washek of Powell, Alan Washek and Douglas (Cheryl) Washek both of Sandusky; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sisters, Marie Taylor of Moundsville, WV and Mary Ellen Glover of Alliance, OH; sister-in-law, Sherry (Thom) Sullivan of Moundsville, WV and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, Blanche is preceded in death by her husband, whom she married in 1953, Bernard Nicholas Washek, in 2001; sisters, Minnie Ethel Rogers and Nancy Mowder; her brothers, Samuel, Richard, LeRoy and Charles Jr. Leek and great-grandchild in infancy, Lydia Nadine Egbert.
Friends may call on Thursday, June 20, 2019 from 10:00 am until the time of funeral services at 12:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Pastor Dan Sanders of the Norwalk Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will follow in Castalia Cemetery, Castalia.
