He was born to the late John Henry and Rosie V. Taylor on July 9, 1947 in Magee, MS. Hilton was the sixth of eight children.

Hilton met his bride Ola Mae Miller in Mississippi. They moved to Sandusky, OH and were married on August 13, 1967. From that union, they had two children - Charlotta and Chadwick Taylor.

Hilton graduated from Magee High School in 1965, where he played football. Hilton became a journeyman pipefitter in 1973, working for various construction companies for several years. In 1984, he was hired in skilled trades at Ford Motor Company. He worked at Ford until his retirement in 2012. During his time at Ford, he was very active with the JST committee. In November of 2018, Hilton received his Fifty-Year Membership Certificate in the United Association Local 42. He also received Lifetime Membership status for having Fifty Years of continuous dues paid in the United Association.

Hilton was a "Gentle Giant" - he had a quiet demeanor with a booming voice. Even though he was an introvert, he valued and treasured his relationships with his family and co-workers.
