Jo Ann (Harper) Taylor, 82, residing in Leesburg, FL and formerly of Huron and Milan, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at her residence.
Jo Ann was born on November 18, 1936 in Parkersburg, WV to the late Harry Owen and Oklie
Muriel (Blackshire) Harper.
Jo Ann attended Lorain High School. In 1972 she earned her bachelors degree in Elementary Education from Bowling Green State University (while raising four children). She taught at New London Elementary School for 23 years and was the Art Teacher for Berlin Milan Middle School for 2 years. Jo Ann was a member of The Chapel and former president of the Sunshine Club of Sandusky. She enjoyed reading, traveling, painting, card playing and spending time with her family. Known by her friends as the "scrabble queen," she became proficient in Words with Friends digital scrabble and was often involved in simultaneous games with multiple people all over the country. She leaves behind countless memo pads filled with words none of us can pronounce!
Jo Ann is survived by her children, Vicki Taylor (Mark Hooker), Kelly Monroe (John Guseman) and Joseph M. Taylor Jr. (Sandy Taylor); Son-in-Law, John Neal; grandchildren, Jonathan (Martha) Allen, Mark (Mimi) Allen, LJ (Mike) Mersch, Alli Neal, Madison Taylor; great-grandchildren, Erick, Joey, Sophie, Jaxon and Layla; sister, Shirley (Ronald) Gaborick; brother, James (Julie) Harper; best friends, Robert and Cherry King along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, Jo Ann is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. Taylor Sr., to whom she was married for 63 years; her beloved daughter, Robin Taylor Neal; son-in-law, Richard L. Holzmiller; sister, Jean Harper and brother, Robert Harper.
Friends may call on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at 10:30 am at The Chapel, 4444 Galloway Rd., Sandusky. Pastor Jay Halley will officiate. Burial will follow in Milan Cemetery.
