Lawrence H. Stookey Jr., 77, residing in Sandusky, passed away Thursday evening, July 11, 2019 at Providence Care Center.
Larry was born on May 22, 1942 in Sandusky, OH to the late Lawrence H. and Mary E. (Harnad) Stookey Sr.
Larry attended Sts. Peter & Paul Elementary School and graduated from Sandusky High School in 1960. He worked at Union Chain and Apel Lumber before retiring in 2000 from General Motors as a bar line operator. He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, UAW Local 913 Chapter and the former IAB Club. Larry was a car enthusiast and built and owned sprint cars. He enjoyed watching NASCAR races, restoring and painting old cars, taking rides in his station wagon with his boxer dogs and sharing stories down at the Jackson Street Pier with his friends.
Larry is survived by his daughter, Brenda (Jim) Hurst of Sandusky; granddaughter, Sydney Hurst; brother, Bob Stookey and his adopted family of special friends, Jim, Amy, Donna, Connie and many others at the Rosewood Hall at Providence Care Center.
Friends may call on Monday, July 15, 2019 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
