Jeffrey L. Vara, 56, Sandusky passed away on Saturday, July 13,2019, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, after a brief illness. He resided at Parkvue Care Center for the past 4 years.
Jeff graduated from Betty Rinderle School in the early '70's. He worked at Ability Works for many years. He participated in Special Olympic Track, Basketball, and Bowling for which he earned countless awards and ribbons. Jeff loved sports, Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns. He was a kind, gentle, funny man who liked hugs, loved to dance, and was very giving. He was also very spiritual and will be greatly missed by everyone who encountered him in his lifetime.
Jeff is survived by his father, Nicholas Vara, Sandusky; sisters, Kathie Chandler, Las Vegas, Vicki Kiesel, Medina, OH, and Linda Goslar-Vara, Sandusky; a brother, Jerry Vara, Sandusky; two aunts, a brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathryn "Katie" (Bassett) Vara; a sister, Pamela Vara-Kelley; grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Friends may call on Friday, July, 19, 2019, from 4 P.M. until time of funeral services at 6 P.M. in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Rev. Cathy Lawrence, chaplain at Parkvue will officiate,
Private burial will take place in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics of Erie County.
