Dessa Vickery Bakewell, 92, passed from this life to be with the Lord on November 5, 2011 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Dessa was born March 12, 1919 in Ontario Canada and moved to Bellevue as a child. She was a 1937 honor graduate of York High School and in 1940 married Kenneth V. Vickery in Bellevue. He preceded her in death, along with her father, Albert Dymond in 1953.
Dessa resided in Bellevue until 1957 when she moved to Sarasota, Florida. She ran a business there for 12 years and lived in Clearwater, Florida until moving to Scottsdale, Arizona in 2006. Dessa was a member of Bible Baptist Church, Palm Harbor, Florida. She was blessed with a generous heart and touched many lives with her kindness and wonderful smile.
Her mother, Maude Misner Dymond, preceded her in death in 1983. Survivors include 3 children, Sharon (Jack) Watson, Scottsdale, AZ; Gary (Donna) Vickery, Cordova, TN; and Patti (David) Veverka, Sarasota, FL, her 3 grandchildren, Michael (Kristen) Watson, Suzanne Watson, Mindy Horstman and 5 great-grandchildren as well as several nieces/nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 11:00 with a visitation 1/2 hour prior (10:30 a.m.) at Foos and Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue. Burial will follow at Bellevue Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E.
