Claudia J. Byers (nee Drossman)

Claudia J. Byers (nee Drossman), 78, of Amherst, passed away at the home of her daughter on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Claudia was born in Sandusky on November 5, 1940 to the late Fred and Evelyn (nee Thompson) Drossman.

She graduated from Sandusky High School and Western Union Business College, Chicago. Claudia retired from Oberlin College where she was employed as an administrator for 28 years. After retirement, she was employed by Amherst Public Library.

She was an enthusiastic Indians and Cavaliers fan. She loved walking the beaches of Lake Erie and Southern California and visiting lighthouses, especially Marblehead.

Survivors include her children: daughter and son-in-law, Cheron Rebok-King and Timothy King, son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Sharon Byers, and daughter and son-in-law, Leigh Anne Byers-Schuyler and Will Schuyler; grandchildren: Michael (Daisy) Rebok, John Rebok, Jr., twins, Meghan and Kailey Schuyler, and Jacob Schuyler; great-grandchildren: Ryleigh, Easton, and Grayson Rebok; brother, Fred "Butch" (Elaine) Drossman; sisters, Helen Sietz and Glenda (Kenneth) Andrew; and brother, Glen (Linda) Bellamy.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, James R. Byers, in 1972.

A private graveside ceremony was held at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron. A Celebration of Life is planned for Sunday, August 4 at 12:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Byzantine social hall, adjacent to the Marblehead Lighthouse.
